Station & Ventilation Shaft Designs

The RPA have been requested to release the designs of the Griffith Ave Station and the Ventilation Shaft to residents under the Freedom of Information Act. This was denied by the RPA who stated that it “would be contrary to the public interest” to release this information. All other stations are in draft form on the RPA website. Why are the residents of Drumcondra being kept in the dark?

The ventilation shaft in Drumcondra is still only represented by a dot on the RPA maps. We need to know the size of this shaft structure and projected emission from same.

24 Hour Working

Following questions by RfR the RPA has confirmed that it intends to apply for permission for 24hour tunnelling / works on the metro north project. RfR are fully opposed to 24hour working on metro north in residential areas. We have asked all local politicians for their position on 24 hour working and we will post them on our website.

Unexpected Property/Ground Acquisitions

RfR have learnt that some properties along Ferguson road, not directly on Option 6, have been written to by the RPA stating that their property will be tunnelled under. Sen. Paschal Donohoe has forwarded us a letter he received from Mary Denise O’Reilly, PRORPA which states that “in addition where temporary ground support is necessary in the form of, for example, rock bolts the property acquisition has to be extended to allow for the length that the rock bolt extend from outside of the tunnel wall”.  This is the first that residents or RfR have learnt about the need for extended property acquisition along the route.

Selection of Independent Expert

We are still awaiting the appointment of the long promised Independent expert. But we note with alarm that in the ‘Scope of Services’ for the independent expert it states that the scope “does not extend to carrying out any original design or analysis”.

Outstanding Issues

1.       Details of the traffic management plan for the Drumcondra area have been requested from the RPA and Dublin City Council. We are inviting DCC and the RPA to attend our next meeting.

2.       Progress from RPA on the Residents Charter

Public / Legal Advice Meeting

The Public / Legal Advice meeting, postponed from earlier this year, is now going ahead on Wednesday, June 18 next, following the re-opening of the renovated Corpus Christi Parish Hall.

We are inviting the RPA to attend this meeting and present drawings/designs of the Griffith Avenue  Station and the Ventilation Shaft.
